March 21, 1921 - Sept. 14, 2008
Donald R. Come, Sarasota, formerly of Lansing, Mich., passed away on Sept. 14, 2008, from cancer complications.
Dr. Come's long and distinguished career began when he graduated as valedictorian from Michigan State University in 1942. Among his many educational honors, Dr. Come received his Ph.D. in history from Princeton University, and graduated cum laude with a J.D. from Thomas M. Cooley Law School.
Dr. Come's teaching career spanned more than 40 years as professor emeritus at Michigan State University.
Dr. Come arrived,in Sarasota in 1998 and became a very active member of his local community and served diligently as a board member at Glenridge on Palmer Ranch.
Donald is fondly remembered for his penchant for well-tailored jackets, his crafty sense of humor and his natural ability to negotiate the dance floor.Donald will be greatly missed by his wife, Lucylee; his niece, Karen Bush Schneider; his grandniece, Emily Schneider; his foster daughter, Susan Lebron; and his stepfamily to include Doug, Gail, Nancy, Jim and Bob. Memorial services will be held on Thursday, Sept. 18, at 11 a.m. at Wiegand Brothers Funeral Home on South Tamiami Trail, Sarasota.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105
