Kelly's BMT Graduation

A Proud Moment in San Antonio: Celebrating Kelly’s Air Force Graduation

On March 26, 2026, our family gathered in San Antonio for a moment we will never forget—watching our daughter, Kelly Parker, graduate from United States Air Force Basic Military Training at Lackland Air Force Base.

This wasn’t just a ceremony—it was a celebration of commitment, resilience, and the beginning of an exciting new chapter.

Family Comes Together

Traveling in from different places, our crew included proud parents Jim and Renee, sister Courtney, grandparents Gene and Margie Cannon, Great Aunt Gail Johnsen, and Kelly’s friend Schuyler. By the time we all landed in Texas on March 24, the excitement was already building.

After settling into the Hotel, we kicked things off with a true Texas dinner at The Little Red Barn Steakhouse—the perfect start to a memorable few days.

Day 1: The First Glimpse of Our Airman

Wednesday morning came early—very early. We arrived at the base before sunrise, joining other proud families at the Pfingston Reception Center.

The highlight of the morning was the Airmen’s Run, where we caught our first glimpse of Kelly in formation. Seeing her run past with her squadron was powerful—disciplined, focused, and transformed.

Later, during the Coin & Retreat Ceremony, we experienced the emotional “tap-out” moment—finally reuniting after weeks of training. It’s hard to put into words what that felt like.

Celebrating on the River Walk

Once Kelly changed into her dress uniform, we headed into the heart of the city—the iconic San Antonio River Walk.

Lunch at Republic of Texas Restaurant gave us time to relax, laugh, and hear stories from training.

We followed that with a narrated boat tour along the river—an easy, scenic way to take in the city together—and then made a stop at the historic The Alamo, a must-see that added a deeper sense of history and pride to the day.

The afternoon was intentionally low-key back at the hotel—rest, games, and simply enjoying being together again. Dinner was casual, but the real focus was just spending time with Kelly before she had to return to base that evening.

Day 2: Graduation Day

Thursday morning brought the main event—the Graduation Parade.

Watching Kelly march in formation, standing tall in her uniform, was a moment filled with pride for everyone there. The discipline, confidence, and professionalism she displayed were incredible to witness. It was clear she had earned every bit of that uniform.

One Last Day Together

After the ceremony, we made the most of our final hours together.

Lunch at Saltgrass Steak House was a celebratory meal—fitting for the occasion.

We then visited the Tower of the Americas, taking in panoramic views of the city—a reminder of just how far Kelly has come, and how far she’s going.

A stop at Shops at Rivercenter gave us a chance to walk, shop, and stretch out the last moments together.

We spent the final hours of Kelly's Town Pass at the Japanese Tea Garden before returning her to her Barracks.

A Moment We’ll Never Forget

Saying goodbye wasn’t easy—but it was different this time. This wasn’t a goodbye filled with uncertainty, but one filled with pride.

Kelly is no longer just our daughter—she is now an Airman in the United States Air Force.

These two days in San Antonio were more than a trip—they were a celebration of hard work, sacrifice, and achievement. From early mornings on base to peaceful moments along the River Walk, every part of the experience brought us closer together as a family.

We couldn’t be prouder.
